Coriander / Cilantro
Coriandrum sativum
Coriander (Coriandrum sativum), or cilantro, is an annual herb of 35 to 50cm with a smooth stem that branches towards the top. Its lower leaves are broad and cut into rounded, coarsely toothed lobes, while those higher up are shredded into fine pointed threads; stem and leaf give off a pleasant scent when bruised. White or faintly pink flowers stand above them in small umbels. It is grown all over Vietnam, almost entirely for the leaf as a kitchen herb, on cool, limy, free-draining ground in the open, since the plant wants light and dislikes clay and shade.
