Goosegrass
Eleusine indica
Goosegrass (Eleusine indica) is an annual grass with tough roots, growing in tufts, its stems either upright or trailing and reaching 10 to 60cm. The leaves are soft and strap-like, 10 to 30cm long and 3 to 7mm wide, with hairy sheaths; in summer and autumn the flower spikes open at the stem tip as five to seven finger-like heads, with up to two more set lower down on the stalk. It grows wild on grassy ground and roadsides across Vietnam, and in Cambodia, Laos and China. Livestock graze it, and the whole plant is cut almost year-round.
