Guava Leaf
Psidium guajava
Guava leaf (Psidium guajava) comes from a small tree of four to five metres with thin, smooth bark that flakes away in plates as it ages and square, softly hairy young shoots. The leaves grow in opposite pairs on very short stalks, oblong to oval with a rounded base and veins standing out beneath. Native to tropical America, it is planted throughout Vietnam for its fruit and sometimes found growing wild. Leaves are picked through the year and dried. A handful is simmered in water for a quarter of an hour or more; the young leaves and buds are astringent with tannin and carry a trace of essential oil.
