Wedelia chinensis
Wedelia (Wedelia chinensis), sài đất in Vietnamese, is a hardy perennial that creeps along the ground, rooting as it goes and reaching over half a metre on good soil. Its green stems and small opposite leaves are covered in stiff hairs, and the flower heads carry bright yellow rays. Crushed, the plant smells of trám, the Chinese olive, which is why it is also called húng trám; in some places it is eaten raw as a herb. It grows wild in cool, damp ground across northern Vietnam and is now widely planted from stem cuttings, cut close to the soil, best in summer months, and most often used fresh.
