Sweet Wormwood
Adenosma caeruleum
Nhân trần (Adenosma caeruleum) is an annual herb of the figwort family, up to a metre tall, with a round purple stem under fine white hairs and opposite ovate leaves, downy on both sides. Its blue-purple flowers sit singly in the leaf axils or in spikes at the branch tips. It grows wild on the hills and fields of the northern midlands: Vĩnh Phúc, Phú Thọ, Bắc Giang and Bắc Ninh, and has never been taken into cultivation. The flowering plant is cut in summer, dried, and tied into bundles of about twenty stems. Crushed, it is aromatic, its oil smelling of cineole, the note of eucalyptus and cajuput.
