Amur Cork Bark Extract

Phellodendron chinense

Amur cork bark is the inner bark of a large tree. The Amur cork tree, Phellodendron amurense, reaches 20 to 25 metres, its trunk up to 70cm across, with opposite compound leaves of five to thirteen small oval leaflets; the Chinese tree stripped for the same bark is smaller, with seven to fifteen. The bark is thick and layered, grey without and yellow within. The tree does not grow in Vietnam, so the bark is imported from China, where it is found in Heilongjiang, Hebei, Sichuan, Yunnan and Guizhou. Bark is stripped in summer, the grey outer layer scraped off and the yellow inner layer cut up and sun-dried.
