Honeysuckle Vine
Lonicera japonica
Honeysuckle vine (Lonicera japonica) is a climbing vine whose stems can run to ten metres or more, the young shoots pale green and softly downy, the older stems smooth and reddish-brown. It grows wild through the mountain provinces of northern Vietnam — Cao Bằng, Lạng Sơn, Thanh Hóa, Nghệ An and others — and is also planted from cuttings on hill and lowland ground, the first crop cut a year after planting. The plant stays green through winter and carries paired flowers from May to August, sweetly scented, opening white and ageing to yellow. Stems and leaves are cut together and simply dried.
