Morinda Root
Morinda officinalis
Morinda root (Morinda officinalis) comes from a perennial climbing plant of the coffee family, its stiff, sharply pointed leaves set in opposite pairs, green when young and turning a chalky grey-white with age. The flowers open white and turn yellow; the round fruit ripens red. It grows wild at forest edges, on scrubby hills and rough open ground, most plentifully in Quảng Ninh, Hà Tây, Phú Thọ, Bắc Ninh and Bắc Giang, though wild stands have long fallen short of demand. The roots are lifted year round, best in autumn and winter, washed clean of grit, dried, beaten flat as they stiffen and then dried through.
