Snake-needle Grass Extract
Hedyotis diffusa
Snake-needle grass (Hedyotis diffusa) is a low annual herb of the madder family, its slender stems branching from the base and trailing up to about 45 cm, the leaves narrow and lance-shaped, the flowers tiny and white to purplish, set singly or in twos and threes where the leaves join the stem. It is a weed of damp ground, common in rice fields and along streams from Sri Lanka and India through southern China and Japan into the Malay Archipelago, up to about 1,100 metres. Whole plants are pulled as they are wanted, used fresh or dried for keeping, and simmered in water as a decoction.
