Solanum trilobatum
Solanum trilobatum is a thorny, almost hairless herb that turns slightly woody at the base, carrying broadly oval, sinuate-lobed leaves and star-shaped blue flowers about 3 cm across that give way to round purple-to-black berries roughly a centimetre wide. It grows in India, Vietnam, Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia, usually as a volunteer in gardens and on waste ground, and in India it is also reported from tidal swamps. The berries are eaten, and the leaves are cooked as a vegetable; the roots and young shoots are markedly bitter.
