Thalictrum
Thalictrum foliolosum
Thalictrum (Thalictrum foliolosum) is a small herb of the buttercup family, forty to fifty centimetres tall, with a thin, soft, smooth stem and thrice-pinnate sheathed leaves whose round to oval leaflets are scalloped at the edge; the flowers are small and thin-petalled, faintly tinged with purple. It was found growing in quantity in Vietnam's north-west, most of all around Tủa Chùa, and has since been raised in the trial gardens at Sa Pa and Tam Đảo, though it withers in lowland heat. The thick rhizome is the part taken, dug in June, July or August, washed, trimmed of its rootlets and dried. Its flesh is bright yellow and very bitter.
