Gotu Kola Powder
Centella asiatica
Gotu kola (Centella asiatica) is a low, creeping herb that roots at every node, sending up rounded, scallop-edged leaves the shape of a bird's eye, 2 to 4cm across, on stalks that can reach 10 to 12cm. It grows wild throughout Vietnam and across tropical Asia, in Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia and India, and is gathered all year round. The whole plant is used, eaten fresh as a green or dry-roasted to a gold colour. Fresh, it tastes bitter and sharply pungent; dried, that edge falls away and only the smell of hay is left.
